Made ethically in Britain from recycled, recyclable, compostable and biodegradable materials, the eco-ashtray can be recycled with standard cardboard waste. However, if these personal ashtrays do reach landfill sites, they will biodegrade - just like the biodegradable tent pegs that music festivals are promoting this year!
The eco-ashtray was initially invented to prevent countryside fires and cigarette litter in rural areas. It was designed to give smokers in the countryside somewhere environmentally-friendly to quickly extinguish and store cigarettes. That’s why it’s pocketsize, lightweight, very easy to use (can be opened with one hand), windproof and quick at extinguishing cigarettes. So ideal to use at Leave No Trace festivals and events.

How to use & how it works
The smoker simply opens the portable ashtray, places a smouldering cigarette into one of the 5 tubes and then closes it. No stubbing is necessary. The eco-ashtray quickly extinguishes lit cigarettes by rapidly removing oxygen – effectively snuffing them out. View the movie on the right.
What is it made from?
We use a special cartonboard for the outer of the eco-ashtray, which is recyclable, biodegradable and compostable. This has a micro-layer of clay on the inside, which makes it heat and flame resistant. This material complies with the following:
- The paperboard complies with EN 13430 - Recoverable by material recycling - and is already recycled in available paper and paperboard recycling systems
- The paperboard complies with EN 13431 - Recoverable by energy recycling - with a net calorific value around 14-15 MJ/kg.
- The paperboard complies with EN 13432 - Recoverable by composting and biodegradation - as a packaging material of natural origin
Inside are 5 strong tubes, which give the eco-ashtray its strength and effeciently snuffs-out smouldering cigarettes. These tubes are produced in Yorkshire from recycled material and are made into their robust cylindrical form with the use of eco-friendly, water-based PVA glue.
